Certain things feel impossible to explain
I wrote the other day about the challenges for me and many others I know to have any kind of political conversation. And then I found this piece that explains so much about how I feel.
I Don’t Know How To Explain To You That You Should Care About Other People
The author writes about why I can’t even entertain the idea, most days, of even having the rational conversations I believe are needed in today’s climate. Because how can I explain to others who don’t seem to agree with what I believe is necessary for us to exist as one human kind together here on this planet?
The political discussions about taxes and trade policies, immigration and health care are symptoms. The illness is much broader and a much more diffficult thesis on which we can agree. Or disagree.
Riddle me this: if we don’t agree in a basic philosophy that humans and citizens sharing a country and communities should care for one another, how can we agree on tax policies, healthcare that takes care of everyone and so, so much more?
