Sadness in the celebration

July 4, 2017

Today is a day to celebrate this fine country of America. To appreciate our many freedoms.

And yet, it’s all tinged in sadness for me. Sadness for a time when our political majority party wants to defund health insurance for a HUGE portion of our population, including the elderly and the infirmed; wants to eliminate health care options used primarily by women, gay and transgender people; wants to build walls to keep people out or to keep us in; wants to hurl personal insults and defend them by saying they were stricken first. Sadness because our political majority seems to have lost its humanity.

What is freedom without humanity? What is country without humanity?
