Music that ages with us
July 1, 2017
Today’s musical obsession is Sinead O’Connor. Specifically, Black Boys on Mopeds.
The emotion when she sings is palpable in every video that I’ve run through. Even without video, I feel it.
This song is particularly striking. It’s a simple song with so much depth, and unfortunately, a message that resonates as deeply today as it did when she sang it on late night television in 1990.
“It’s the home of police who kill black boys on mopeds. And I love my boy, and that’s why I’m leaving. I don’t want him to be aware that there’s any such thing as grieving.”
Give Sinead a listen. She may not leave you walking away with a spring in your step, but she’ll leave you feeling something.
