You down with OPP?
Other people’s problems. I’m no armchair psychologist. I’m not even a bench therapist. But other people’s problems often seem simple to solve.
Perspective. On other’s problems, I often have this. On my own problems, I have to push hard to gain it.
Objectivity. On other’s problems, I often have this. On my own problems, I focus too much on the potential outcomes, it’s often too easy to argue both sides of the coin. That just overwhelms the process.
Distance. On other’s problems, I often have this. On my own problems, I’m just too close.
Predicament? How to gain the perspective, objectivity and distance needed to allow myself to see my own problems with the clarity at which I see others?
You down with OPP? Yeah, you know me.
We are uniquely blind to the obvious solutions to our own problems while having extreme clarity for others; this is another reason for our need for community.
