Own It

Caveats and disclaimers help us explain things away.
“Oh, you’re taking a vacation.”
“Yes, well I had some time off and we got a great deal from the airline and we haven’t seen Jimmy Lou since last year.”
“I love those shoes!”
“Thanks, I bought them on sale last week.”
Accept a compliment. Answer a comment with a simple answer. Don’t explain it away. Yes, you spent a lot of money on those shoes. They look damn good. Yes, you’ve planned an expensive trip. You want to.
The person to whom you are delivering these disclaimers about your decisions don’t really care as much as you think they do.
Own it.
