This is seriously wack
A pharmaceutical company recently initiated a social media campaign based around a video. Nothing shocking. Everyone’s doing it.
But the video at the center of the initiative, “Birds & Bees: The Real Story,” is a little bit of a shocker. Watch for yourself:
What do you think?
Now that I’m nearly 31 weeks pregnant, I can see the silly humor of the rapping bird and bee. It’s ridiculous. Even in my current happily gestating state, I’m not sure I think this is funny.
But catch me a year ago with this ad? I hardly imagine I could have laughed through my concern, worry and trying not be stressed about not getting pregnant. But apparently, at that time, I would have been the target audience. Confusing. And I like offensive humor as much as the average Brit!
I read an article about this on a PR site and it explains the brand positioning, per the pharma company. Still, it’s a VERY sensitive topic. One that, if you are in the midst of a stressful potential infertility period of time, may not be funny at all.
I’d love to know what other people think.
OMG, Abbe! Congrats on the bun in the oven!!!! 🙂
